The Modern Monster

 

At times, I become scared;

I find my shadow a ghost;

Modernity has indeed dared

Too much due to its boast.

 

I fail to recognise

The face in the mirror;

I fail to patronise

Myself, full of horror.

 

Wherever I put my glance,

I find all things banal;

Lunacy seems to dance,

Throwing muck from the canal.

 

Life’s become full of decay;

In fact, it’s growing on and on;

Nights seem brighter than a day;

All morality has gone, aye, gone.

 

Whenever I become nostalgic,

The rugged reality hurts even more;

I do feel, find life tragic

And become wounded and full of gore.

 

The wind has been full, too full,

Full of venom everywhere;

The social greyhounds drool, yes, drool;

Peace becomes too much rare.

 

Ethics have departed long ago;

And we applaud sometimes! How?

This life is a truly tragic show

That is going on so well now.

 

How can we become so devoid?

There’s no depth in any word today;

Eyes get blurred, need much steroid

And tears pour salt on the moments gay.

 

Sometimes, I, indeed, wish to flee,

Flee to a distant unknown land;

I come back to the real, lose my glee

And myself do I reprimand.

 

Everything seems to be a gyre

In such a modern and murderous era;

Either side of the path, every liar,

Does decorate with lies in plethora.

    প্রথম দেখায় কবি সোমালিকে পাওয়া গেল একজন বিজ্ঞানমনস্ক সমাজসচেতন পর্যবেক্ষক হিসেবে..! বর্তমান যুগে মানুষের অপরিসীম লোভ আর অজ্ঞতা লুট করে চলেছে প্রকৃতির অমোঘ অঢেল সম্পদের ভাণ্ডার ! মানুষ নিজের বিনাশের পথ নিজেই তৈরি করতে লেগেছে .. কবি যথার্থ ভাবেই involved .. at large আশঙ্কিত আমরাও ..! কিন্তু পরের অসামান্য দক্ষতায় লেখা কবিতার মর্মমূলে কেন এত ষ্পষ্ট হতাশা আর গভীর বিষাদের কালো ছায়া ..? অন্ধকারে তলিয়ে যাবার সময় তো এটা নয় ..? যৌবনের অফুরান প্রাণশক্তির আবেশে কাঙ্ক্ষিত স্বপ্নটাকে আরো বেশি বেশি করে আঁকড়ে থাকার 'স্বর্ণ সময়' তো এটাই .. তবে কেন এমন চিন্তার শিকার হলেন কবি সোমালি – বুঝিনা কবিদের মনের গভীর অনুভবের গোপন তত্ব ..!! তবু বলব অসাধারণ শব্দচয়ন, রূপকল্পের ইউনিক প্রয়োগ , গভীর সেন্টিমেন্টের অসম্ভব সচেতন আর কাব্যময় প্রকাশে এই কবিতা বিশ্বমানের বিবেচিত হবার দাবি রাখে বলেই বর্তমান প্রতিবেদকের দৃঢ় বিশ্বাস ..! অভিনন্দন কবি সোমালি কে ..। 💐
