Substance of the poem At a distance within view, the lunar beams function as a spotlight on the Ganges. The dark night sky is up full of millions of stars. Do you hear the far desire of the incoming and the outgoing steamers. They sway like a pendulum on the breast of the Ganges that looks like a stage. Long ago, when civilization commenced, the curtain of the stage -- the world -- was raised. Again, it will fall down some day or t
