Superior Education Ecosystem; Enhanced Future
The essay -- "Superior Education Ecosystem; Enhanced Future"
Interdependence is the fundamental code of an environmental ecosystem. Thus, education is a replica of an ecosystem. The interrelation among all the students, the teachers, the non-teaching staffs, the guardians, and the regulatory board or authority refers to the education ecosystem. It is discerned in various levels, like in schools, colleges, universities, vocational training institutes etc. Again, one level of ecosystem is correlated with the others like a thread holds all the flowers together to form a beautiful garland.
Precisely, from kindergarten to
primary school, from primary to secondary school, from school to college, from
college to university, and from university to professional training centres, a
unique ecosystem is found. Now the question is – Is the education ecosystem
still pure and corruption-free even in the 21st century?
Remarkably, the lottery admission
system in the government schools emerged in this century. Consequently, most of
the times, many meritorious pupils cannot get admission to schools fairly,
while those with little intelligence can get a ticket to school easily. Again, many
parents’ financial instability hinders their kids from getting admission to English-medium
schools.
Moreover, proper evaluation is not
done to all the students always. Be it school, college or university, many
pupils suffer from frustration after the publication of the board results,
because most of them can apply hardly for review, since RTI is not entertained
in all cases. All these affect the transparency of education ecosystem. Since
the basic place is being impeded, the students are hindered in admission to most
colleges and universities because of marks-based entrance system.
Furthermore, political power has
entered such education ecosystem. For example, the son or daughter of a politically
powerful person is often provided with many privileges. Students’ union becomes
the rule-maker. Therefore, particularly in colleges and universities, political
corruption hamper the entire ecosystem.
Actually, an educational institute must
salute equality and fraternity. However, most of the institutes in the 21st
century use these two ideologies verbally, but practically speaking, these are
not followed at all. For example, we can point out the experiences of ragging
in schools and colleges. Moreover, sexual abuses towards the female kids in the
schools add fuel to the fire.
In the vocational training centers, again,
much mental torture, or should we say, sometimes physical torment too are done to
undermine and suppress the talented. Sometimes, most regrettably, it is
noticeable that the teachers too have to support the injustices done to the
innocents in order to save their (teachers’) own lives.
Sometimes it can be found that the
teachers become victims to disrespectful comments on part of the rowdy
students. Again, sometimes it is the teachers who fail to understand the
students’ psychology. Hence, a rampant conflict takes place.
It is interesting to note that many
times the students, their guardians, and even the teachers demean and pass
humiliating remarks to the non-teaching staffs, considering them to belong to
lower middle classes. After all, we have no right to belittle any sort of honest
work.
Worthy of note, because of not
getting proper dignity to the merit and talent, many Indian students go abroad for
higher studies. This brain drain leads to such a vacant situation when the
country wants proper and dedicated teachers. As a result, the education
ecosystem suffers even more.
To bring remedial steps, we first
must ensure introduction of digitization to every education ecosystem.
Moreover, comprehension of student psychology is mandatory. Thereafter, face to
face interaction between each pupil and each teacher must be handled.
Parents’-teachers’-meeting must be given utmost importance to ensure a healthy
relationship among the students, the teachers and the guardians for working out
every sort of problem. All the institutes must install CCTV cameras. In
addition, proper understandings between one another, amicable environment and on-time
implementation of clever education system by the government will be extra
advantages.
The three probable measures required
to improve the quality of education ecosystem are, namely, maintenance of
infrastructure, quality of the teaching procedure and that of the teachers, and
extra-curricular activities. First, an infrastructure must include spacious
classrooms, clean and hygienic toilets, accessible drinking water, activities,
laboratories and computers for each student. Second, the teachers are the keys
to the students’ knowledge and hunger for more knowledge. Hence, the teachers
must be friendly and qualified, and the teaching techniques ought to be methodological
with smart classrooms and digital course contents. Third, all the institutes –
be it a school, a college, a university or a professional training center – must
introduce facilities of sporting and cultural events for the expansion of the
students’ talent as well as for the utilization of their knowledge into real
life.
Education ecosystem can be superior according
to the valuable words of Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, “One
child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world.”
